Winter Weather Advisory in effect through 4 pm this afternoon. Up to 13 inches of snow expected, along with gusty wind reaching 50 miles an hour. Travel will be difficult to hazardous.
Snowing hard, packed snow, and slick conditions from the Highway 62 junction to the Highway 138 junction. Plows and sanders working. Chains required for all vehicles from mile post 12 to the Highway 138 junction. Traction tires allowed in place of chains on vehicles under 10,000 GVW and not towing. Vehicles towing must use chains.
Winter driving season has begun. Studded tires legal for use in both Oregon and California. Snow Zones with chain laws in effect.

This highway exists solely to be a shortcut. A connector. There are NO services anywhere along its 25 mile length. Be aware of that in the winter especially. It also is rarely patrolled by law enforcement, unless there is a major snowstorm ongoing.
